Zelimir Neskovic: SNSD Rejects Excise Tax Abolition, While Millions Went to Tycoons

Želimir Nešković, a delegate of the Serb Club in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, criticized remarks by Sanja Vulić, head of the SNSD caucus in the House of Representatives, who said the party would not support the temporary abolition of fuel excise taxes that could lower prices at gas stations.

Nešković described Vulić’s claim that such a move would threaten the financial stability of institutions as “ridiculous,” noting that the SNSD did not raise similar concerns, as he said, when hundreds of millions of convertible marks from the budget allegedly ended up in the “pockets of tycoons” through questionable deals and arbitration.

“It seems they had no regrets about that enormous amount of money going to tycoons, yet they object to funds that could ease the burden on citizens. It is astonishing how indifferent the SNSD is to the problems and hardships faced by our people,” Nešković said.

The vice president of the Serbian Democratic Party also pointed out that the Government of Serbia recently decided to temporarily reduce excise duties on petroleum products, calling it an example of a responsible government trying to help citizens.

He added that Vulić had described such measures as frivolous and populist and warned they could undermine financial stability, expressing hope that the SNSD might reconsider its stance after further review.
