zenica_zatvorZenica prison is one of the oldest prisons in Europe, and it has a potential for additional accommodation of persons. However, it does not have a sufficient number of capable persons to work with convicts.

The reception of a larger number of persons, who have been legally sentenced, could be immediately done without the additional enlargement of prison capacities. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that, for the larger number of convicts in Zenica prison, the conditions for their stay are available for the last couple of months.

“Several years ago we destroyed one old object and made the so-called new third pavilion”, about which the public could hear last summer. Moreover, we organized the presentation of the object in the framework of the work visit of Minister Zoran Mikulić. It is about one totally new and sophisticated prison, which will be used for dangerous convicts. The capacity of that object is maximum 120 beds and it is made in accordance with the last European standards, so it represents an object of high security.

Currently there is a realization of the competition for the reception of new staff, which was approved by the Federal government and the departmental minister. From that competition, 19 persons from different backgrounds should be hired. The competition is still in the administrative stage of decision and checking, due to the big number of interested persons.

According to the Zenica prison, they expect that until the end of the year Federal government and ministry will approve the second competition and that they will get the staff needed for the third pavilion, after which the prison capacity with 120 units will start to work.
