Today marks the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust, the greatest crime in history.
On this day, 78 years ago after the liberation of Auschwitz, they said “never again!”, and then the genocide in Srebrenica was committed and 8,372 men and boys were killed, said today the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust.
“And because of that, this is the day when we all have to be aware of the horrors of wars and the horrors of the Holocaust and genocide. Although we live in a time when there is constant talk about respecting human rights and freedoms, today the struggle to preserve the most precious values of a multi-religious and multicultural society is more relevant than ever,” he added.
He reminded that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina know best that the fascist ideology has not yet been defeated, and the events of the past confirm that, unfortunately, elements of fascism exist in Bosnian society even today, hidden or even very open, and that there are non-humans who advocate hatred towards others and who are ready to commit the most terrible crimes again.
“On the day when we remember the victims of the Holocaust, I want to say that we all have to fight together so that neither Auschwitz, nor Treblinka, nor Buchenwald, nor Srebrenica, nor Prijedor will ever happen again… and say even louder “never again”,” said Zvizdić said in a statement.
