A Romanian soldier who was part of EUFOR died on Sunday in the pool of the Hills Hotel in Ilidža.

Sergeant Major Parlac Ionuț Cosmin (35) was a member of the 281st Fire Support Battalion in Focșani. The Romanian Ministry of Defense said the accident occurred in the pool.

“The soldier, who was off-duty at the time, suffered serious injuries while swimming in a water complex in Sarajevo. Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after the incident,” it said.

Medical staff provided first aid and rushed him to the University of Sarajevo Clinical Center. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the soldier was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the Military Prosecutor’s Office in Romania, and a special commission has been formed within the battalion headquarters and company.

Sergeant Major Parlac Ionuț Cosmin served in the Romanian Armed Forces since 2019. He was married and a father of two children, Klix.ba writes.
