sefik“A total of about 25,000 Bosnians were in the units of the Croatian Army and police who fought against Serbian forces since 1991. Unfortunately, around 1,100 of them lost their lives during these conflicts. Percentage-wise, it is the largest contribution of a nation in defense of Croatia” – says the president of the Bosnian National Minority of the City of Zagreb, Kemal Bukvić.

“But, you know, we are pleased that the Croatian people know how to appreciate this sacrifice. They did not forget the contribution that Bosnians made in defense for Croatian independence” – explains Bukvić, adding that Croatia has fully funded the construction of the memorial of killed Bosnians that is set up in front of the Islamic center in Zagreb.

These days, the Council of the Bosnian national minority of Zagreb is preparing for the 8th and 9th of May, when IV Memorial days of Šefik Pezerović will be held. He was the first Bosnian police officer who died in the defense of Croatia.

Šefik Pezerović was born in 1968 in Palanka next to Brčko. Later on, he went to Zagreb where he finished elementary and high school. In the summer of 1990, as a volunteer, he completed the training for special units after which he joined the MUP.
