Delegation of the Sarajevo Canton marked the 29th anniversary of the battle for the defense of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Chairman of the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton Elvedin Okeric, Minister of Veterans’ Affairs od SC Omer Osmanovic and Minister of Interior Admir Katica laid flowers at Kovaci cemetery and at the grave of the first President of the BiH Presidency Alija Izetbegović, as well as at Lav cemetery and Stadium cemetery and at the Central Memorial to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of Novi Grad.

On this occasion, Minister Osmanovic pointed out that May 2 and 3 are very important dates in the history of our homeland. The aggressor forces then tried to occupy the building of the Presidency of BiH and take control of key points in the city.

As he stated, despite all the mentioned events, Sarajevo was defended.

“Unfortunately, after that, the longest siege of a city in history of modern warfare started on this day and the innocent suffering of its inhabitants began. However, we endured all these misfortunes, but unfortunately, with great sacrifices. Today we live in peace and we proudly remember the courage of our fellow citizens,” said Osmanovic.
