Addiction to narcotic drugs is a growing problem in society, which is confirmed by the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska, according to which more than 33 kg of drugs were seized and 15 people were arrested in the first five months of this year in the Republika Srpska.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska states that this year there were 1,124 cases of drug abuse.

“These are 158 criminal acts and 966 misdemeanors, and from January to May 2023, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska found and detained 15 perpetrators at the scene of criminal acts related to the abuse of narcotic drugs, and three laboratories for the production of drugs in the territory of the police administrations of Banjaluka, Gradiška and Prijedor”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs points out.

They state that in the first five months of 2023, the most confiscated narcotic drugs were marijuana, namely 28,823 grams, 1,550 grams of cocaine, 2,590 grams of amphetamine and 5,585 pieces of cannabis seeds.

Last year, 2,005 cases of drug abuse were detected, of which 319 were criminal offenses and 1,686 were misdemeanors.

“Police officers found and detained 31 perpetrators at the scene of the crime, in connection with the abuse of narcotic drugs,” the Ministry of Interior states and add that in 2022, four drug production laboratories were discovered in the territory of the Banjaluka police administration. Doboj and East Sarajevo and in Foča.

Of the narcotic drugs, 131,014 grams of marijuana, 74,227 grams of cocaine, 2,665 grams of amphetamine and 12,028 pieces of cannabis seeds were confiscated.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska states that they regularly support and participate in all activities aimed at preventing the abuse of narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances.

“That’s how this time, in cooperation with the Commission for the Suppression of Narcotic Drug Abuse in the Republika Srpska, the International Day of the Fight Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, which is marked on June 26, while in December we celebrate the International Month of the Fight Against Addiction Diseases,” they said from the Ministry of Interior.

They note that on these dates, members of the Ministry in their local communities throughout Republika Srpska distribute informational leaflets to citizens that warn of the harmfulness of intoxicating and psychoactive substances, the danger of addiction, and promote healthy lifestyle habits, especially among young people.

“We often organize scientific conferences, round tables or open days, all with the aim of preventive action. Also, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska regularly conducts trainings for police officers to work on the detection and investigation of this type of crime,” concludes the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska.
