Although the company Shell gave up on oil exploration in the FBiH, companies from Australia, France, Canada, the US and Malaysia showed the interest in the project.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry of FBiH, in case of the existence of economically significant deposits of oil and gas, it would mean a lot for BH economy. There would be a significant investment in infrastructure such as oil pipelines, gas pipelines, terminals, roads etc., which would further allow employment in construction, technology, engineering, environmental protection and other fields.
“Given that the oil-geological research is very expensive and risky, it is necessary to invest significant resources in this project. As an example of what kind of funds these are, it is enough to say that for the implementation of a borehole with a depth of 5-6 thousand meters it is needed from 45 to 50 million USD,” as stated from the ministry.
“Having in mind that the exploration and exploitation takes a lot of professional experience and the fact that current capacity in BiH and the region, due to high costs and the specificity of jobs, cannot respond to these requirements, the Government of BiH decided to implement these activities by finding investors in the form of a company with the best experience in dealing in this field,” as stated from the ministry.
The basic preconditions for further exploration for oil and gas were created in the period from 2011 to 2016. From this ministry stated that the legislation in the field of exploration and exploitation of oil and gas was adopted, an evaluation of future prospects of the FBiH for oil and gas exploration were done and Data Room – a room with all the data from the survey was created, which is located in the Federal Institute for Geology.
