75.9 percent of households in Bosnia and Herzegovina have access to the Internet, 23.9 percent do not have access, while 0.2 percent of households do not know whether they have access to the Internet.

According to data published by the BiH Statistics Agency, 78.8 percent of respondents used the Internet in the last three months, 2.1 percent for more than a year, while 18.5 percent of households never used the Internet.

In the last three months, 77 percent of women and 80.8 percent of men used the Internet in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and according to work status, 53.3 percent of pensioners, 84.1 percent of the unemployed, 95.2 percent of the employed, while the percentage of students is 100 percent.

The most common reasons for using the Internet for private purposes in 2022 in Bosnia and Herzegovina are: searching for information about goods and services 75.8 percent; reading internet portals, online newspapers and magazines 70.3 percent; sending online messages via skype, messenger, whatsapp, viber, etc. 84.5; participation in social networks 70.7 percent and phoning via the Internet 93.6 percent.

Internet banking services in Bosnia and Herzegovina are used by 20.1 percent of households today, while this percentage was 7.8 percent in 2019.

The purpose of the aforementioned research was to show the level of use of computers and other information and communication technologies, as well as the number of people in Bosnia and Herzegovina who are Internet users, and for what purposes the Internet is used. These data constitute an important source of information for the implementation of policies in the information society sector.

The unit of observation was the household chosen as a sample, and the unit of survey was a member of the household between 16 and 74 years of age. The sample was designed as a three-stage stratified random sample. The sampling units of the first stage were one or more enumeration circles.

Randomly selected households with at least one household member aged 16-74 within those census circles were the units of the second sampling stage, while randomly selected persons within those selected households were the units of the third sampling stage.

The size of the sample at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina was 8,167 households. The response rate was 80.9 percent, i.e. 6,605 households (response rate = number of units that responded/number of units selected in the sample).
