After the arrest of Edin Vranj, a former high-ranking official of the Federal Police Administration, that occurred on Sunday upon his entering Serbia and accusations of alleged war crimes, numerous reactions followed, and the last of which came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country.
As it was found out, Minister Bisera Turkovic yesterday invited Ambassador Aida Smajic from Belgrade for urgent consultations at the ministry’s headquarters in Sarajevo.
This is the most direct move in response to the move by the Serbian authorities to arrest a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Until the situation calms down, the duties in the embassy will be performed by the charge d’affaires.
Earlier, the chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Zeljko Komsic, and a member of this institution, Sefik Dzaferovic, reacted to thementioned move of the Serbian authorities to arrest Vranj.
They said this represents a new in a series of calculated persecutions of the citizens of BiH by the Serbian authoritieswhile abusing the principle of universal jurisdiction in the prosecution of war crimes. As pointed out, the goal of the Serbian authorities is to revise the truth about the war in BiHand to equalize the warring parties when it comes to the crimes that were committed.
Many subjects in BiH reacted to the arrest of Vranj and the Party for BiH also demanded the withdrawal of the ambassador from Belgrade.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia issued an announcement regarding the arrest of Vranj, stating that this BiH citizen was suspected of war crimes against prisoners of war in the Gorazde area from January 1993 to October 1994, Klix.ba writes.
