The first preliminary results of the cause of the fire in which a mother and daughter died in Hajkovići near Zenica showed that the fire spread after the chimney caught fire.

Around 3 hours and 30 minutes, two women died in the family home. The inhabitants of this village are visibly shaken, they tell BHRT that a great tragedy has befallen them.

“It was night, we were woken up by guys who were coming back from town and saw that the house was on fire. We tried to put it out, so that it wouldn’t spread, but it was already late, there was no way out,” said Besim Alić, a resident of Hajković.

With the intervention of the professional Zenica fire department, the fire was localized around 7 o’clock. Police and fire protection inspectors of the cantonal MUP at the scene of the accident carried out investigations under the supervision of the on-duty Cantonal prosecutor.

“According to the preliminary information obtained during the investigative actions, the cause is most likely the ignition of the chimney, after which the fire spread to the roof and other parts of the house. An autopsy of the body will be performed during the day,” said Samir Valentić, spokesperson of the Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, ZDK.
