The Minister of Energy and Mining of the Republika Srpska, Petar Đokić, announced, during his visit to the “Ugljevik” Mine and Thermal Power Plant, an investment of 50 million euros in the construction of a factory for the processing of gypsum as a desulfurization product and the creation of 100 new jobs.
He also visited the work on the regular annual overhaul of the thermal power plant, which should strengthen its operational readiness and increase the volume of electricity production.
A new investment with the Chinese company “BNBM”, in which RiTE Ugljevik is one of the shareholders, opens a new page of work and development. It is planned to be implemented in the next few years, reports RTRS.
“About 40 million square meters of plasterboard would be produced in that production facility and I am convinced that this is significant for this region and that it will be accepted here and in the Republika Srpska. One big contribution to the further growth of industrial production in the RS,” said Đokić.
He recalled the large investment from 2017 in the flue gas desulfurization system, which extended the working life of the power plant by several decades. He says that it is now a very small polluter and that the new investment will complete the technological process. He expressed his gratitude to the current management of the company and everyone who worked for years to make this investment possible, for which the Government of Srpska gave the key approval.
“After the decisions of the Supervisory Board, the management of the company, the Government of the Republic of Srpska, today the Shareholders’ Assembly made a decision that we can sign contracts for the sale of gypsum and coal with BMBM Ugljevik, so that conditions would be created for starting the investment, the construction of a gypsum factory in Ugljevik, that will mean a lot both for Ugljevik and for Serbia,” said Diko Cvijetinović, director of RiTE “Ugljevik”.
Works on regular annual overhaul in RiTE should strengthen operational readiness and increase the volume of electricity production. The renovation, which began on May 8, should be completed on June 23.
