The airline Wizz Air started closing its base at the Tuzla International Airport and withdrew its first base plane on September 1st of this year. On the other hand, a new airline could establish traffic from Tuzla in November this year.
All flights are available until the end of the month
Furthermore, Wizz Air started implementing its decision on the first day of September in the context of closing its base, and the first base plane has already been withdrawn, while the second should be removed on the 12th of this month.
“After the withdrawal of the base planes, Wizz Air will be at our airport with several destinations until the end of September, when the number of routes will be reduced to only three, that is, routes with a high frequency of passengers. We are still talking to them, but nothing concrete has been agreed upon. I’m sorry that all this is happening because they are extremely important to our passengers,” Director of Tuzla International Airport Dzevad Halilcevic stated.
After the last decision of Wizz Air, the management of the Tuzla Airport started to find a potential airline that would start its operations. As confirmed by Halilcevic, negotiations are currently underway with two airlines, one of which could certainly start operating in November this year.
The return of Ryanair
The House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) recently adopted an initiative introducing a one-year moratorium on the collection of a departure tax of 3 BAM per passenger at airports in our country.
This is a fee charged by the BiH Directorate of Civil Aviation (BHDCA), and it was contested by the airline Ryanair, which shortly after its establishment decided to suspend flights from Tuzla. However, now the possibilities for continued cooperation are opening up again, and new flights are expected in the spring of next year.
“We have notified Ryanair and are now awaiting their response. Considering that on November 1st we enter the winter flying period, and Ryanair made its plan even earlier, it is very likely that they could establish their traffic from our airport in March next year with a minimum of three or four destinations, as they told us in a joint conversation,” Halilcevic said.
All business plans of the Tuzla International Airport are based on the work of Wizz Air, which was the main factor in the survival of this airport. Namely, out of the total number of transported passengers this year, as many as 85 percent of them used the services of the mentioned airline, Klix.ba reports.
