Amanda Radeljak, an actress of Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) origin, interrupted the Danish Film Awards to draw attention to the genocide against Palestinians.
She stated that her speech was not planned, but that she had something she wanted to say to those present. The host allowed her to speak.
“Before our dear politicians run away, can you tell them in Christiansborg that we do not want our tax money to be spent on bombing children?” she first said, and the audience responded with applause.
She then continued: “Free Palestine! Last year, I sat at that table and didn’t have the confidence to come up here. Why is it so hard to stand up and speak out? Talking about people who are suffering and being bombed is strange,” she went on.
She added that she remembers watching many recordings of murdered children, men, and women.
“I thought: ‘Okay, Amanda. You can do this. It’s okay to stand here and say that it is not okay that we are witnessing a genocide being broadcast live,'” she said.
She also mentioned that she carries in her heart the murdered five-year-old Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab. She was shot 335 times. Hind was speaking with her mother when, at one point, she fell silent. Her mother asked her why she wasn’t saying anything.
“She said, ‘Blood is gushing from my mouth.’ Her mother told her to wipe it off, and she said she didn’t want to because it would dirty her shirt,” Radeljak said.
The actress also mentioned a man who was standing with grocery bags. In one bag were the remains of his daughter, and in the other, the remains of his son.
“Our industry talks about empathy. If only integrity, dignity, and humanity were things we truly aspired to, the world would look completely different. Love is the only way forward,” she said and asked everyone present to stand up, turn on the flashes on their phones, raise them in the air, and join her in a minute of silence for all those who are no longer with us, Klix.ba writes.
