On August 13, 2025, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Mirsad Bešić, received copies of his credentials from the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alfred Grannas.

For the past three years, Alfred Grannas has served as the German Ambassador to Pakistan.

Originally from Rosenheim, Bavaria, he joined the German Foreign Ministry in 1990 after a distinguished legal career.

With a degree in law and history from the University of Munich, Ambassador Grannas began his professional career as a judge and district prosecutor in Bavaria before moving into diplomacy.

However, his diplomatic career began with roles as a UNESCO desk officer and first secretary at the German Embassy in Lima, Peru.

This is not Grannas’ first experience in BiH. He previously worked within the OHR, supporting international peacekeeping operations, and later as an advisor for Security Council affairs at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York.

From 2018 to 2022, he served as Germany’s Ambassador to Norway, strengthening Germany’s bilateral relations in Europe, Klix.ba writes.
