Alkalaj: BiH Politicians should move towards Brussels, we have the Support of the international Community

Sven Alkalaj, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to the United Nations (UN) and former Foreign Minister, said that BiH’s reputation in the world should be taken into account and that there were grounds to take a decision to condemn Russia, regardless of the fact that the Presidency is not in session.

”You can’t turn a deaf ear to some things! There was no doubt that BiH would condemn the aggression against Ukraine! I can’t help but speak at the Security Council when it comes to BiH,”Alkalaj said.

According to him, important decisions will have to be made at next year’s NATO summit, and that the climate is favorable for BiH.

Dodik’s letter

He points out that Dodik’s letter ended up in the trash of many ambassadors.

”It is inappropriate for diplomatic practice! Dodik looks funny in front of the whole world. I’m not worried about that letter. It is a comedy that Dodik plays. Only he knows the reasons. The aggression against Ukraine is reminiscent of the 1990s, ” Alkalaj told.

Alkalaj says that the situation in Ukraine is similar to the situation in BiH in the 1990s, but reminded that no one provided weapons to BiH at that time.

We need to move to Brussels

He believes that BiH politicians need to move to Brussels and seek access to NATO so that we could sleep peacefully.

”We have to be proactive. We have the support of the international community and Europe. Europe is together with the United States (U.S.). That was not the case in the 1990s. The Western world defends the values of civilization. NATO can be a reality in BiH! In 2010, we received a conditional MAP. We are not far. We are making preparations.”

He emphasizes that the situation in Ukraine should be used.

”A good message would be sent to Putin: “Don’t reach out to the Western Balkans!”.

”We need to be more than proactive. We must prevent what we do not want. We must move towards NATO membership as soon as possible. We have the right moment. We have to be persistent, ” concluded Alkalaj.
