All elementary school students in the Sarajevo Canton will receive free textbooks, while in the Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDK) students of certain grades will receive free textbooks.
However, the line ministry of ZDK points out that they intend to provide free textbooks to all primary school students in the coming years.
In this way, it will be significantly easier for parents to start the new school year, especially for those who have to equip several schoolchildren.
The CS Ministry of Education told Klix.ba that they are continuing the practice that started last year, when the CS budget for 2022 for the first time provided funds for the purchase of textbooks for students in the amount of 4,000,000 BAM.
In 2008, textbooks were purchased for students from the fifth to the ninth grade who attend public elementary schools in CS.
“Schools were obliged to organize the distribution of textbooks to students at the beginning of the school year. They were assigned to students on the reverse side, and schools were obliged to prescribe a protocol on the distribution, storage, use and return of textbooks with clear responsibilities for the librarian, subject teachers, class teachers, and students and parents and others,” the CS Ministry of Education told Klix.ba.
In the budget of Sarajevo Canton for 2023, 2,500,000 BAM was approved for the purchase of textbooks for students from the first to fourth grades.
“This is good news for our students, parents/guardians, because all students of public elementary education institutions in Sarajevo Canton will receive free textbooks for the 2023/24 school year at the beginning of the new school year. We are continuing our work with new good news,” they said from the line ministry in CS.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the ZDK told Klix.ba that this year the ministry will purchase free textbooks for students in the seventh and eighth grades of elementary schools, and they praised the local communities that provide free textbooks for first graders.
In addition, textbooks for lower grades that were acquired in previous years are in use and ready to be distributed.
300,000 BAM was allocated for the purchase of textbooks for eighth grade students in ZDK.
