Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) mountaineer Naida Avdic climbed to the top of Ama Dablam. With this, she became the first woman from BiH to climb one of the most impressive and beautiful mountains in the world, which belongs to the Himalayas.
On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Naida led her team, as the only woman, all the way to the very top, which they reached in the early hours of the morning. Although her team initially consisted of eight members, five of them managed to reach the top.
Exceptional physical condition is required, but mental strength is the most important to reach the top. We had relatively good conditions, but it was very cold with occasional wind. This is really a great success and I am proud and happy that I was able to fulfill this wish of mine without any major problems. All this, of course, would not have been possible if I had not been physically and mentally prepared and if I had not believed in myself. The way to the top was not easy, but it was worth every moment spent up there. I hope that with this I have shown that everything is possible if we really want it and that I will inspire other girls and women to dare and start making their dreams come true,” Naida emphasized and added that she can’t wait to return to her family and home.
This feat involved climbing over rock, snow, and ice, as well as a long approach to base camp. From the top of Ama Dablam Naida had a wonderful view of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu, and with this ascent, she showed her courage, endurance, and love for mountains, as well as her dedication to the promotion of BiH alpinism and women’s sports.
Yesterday, Naida and her team returned to the Base Camp, and today they will continue on. The next two days are reserved for hiking to Lukla, and on Monday afternoon, a flight back to Belgrade is planned, from where they will head to Sarajevo.
Ama Dablam, which means “Mother’s Necklace” in Nepali, is 6.812 meters high and is considered one of the most impressive and beautiful mountains in the world. This peak is known for its steep pyramids of ice with vertical walls and sharp, exposed ridges. The first ascent of Ama Dablam was performed on March 13th, 1961, and since then it has become a favorite goal of alpinists around the world.
Naida Avdic, who has been an active sport climber and alpinist for ten years, with her success not only set a new standard for BiH alpinism but also qualified for an attempt to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. Her ascent to Ama Dablam is proof that dreams are achievable and that borders exist only to be pushed.
She embarked on this ascent with the great support of her family and friends, as well as sponsors who made it possible for her to embark on the Himalayan journey, Klix.ba reports.
