DSC_0609The Ambassador of the United States (US) to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maureen Cormack, visited yesterday – for the first time – representatives of the Assembly of the Inter-Religious Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the headquarters in Sarajevo.

The meeting was held behind closed doors, and the Chairman of the Assembly of the Council, Husejin ef. Smajić, told reporters that they have discussed issues of interest for the IRC.

‘’We are very satisfied to see that the United States has shown great interest in liberty and good inter-ethnic relations in B&H’’, said ef. Smajić.

The issue of restitution – or return – of property to religious communities in B&H – a process that has been delayed for so long – was also discussed at the meeting, he added.

According to Mr. Smajić, the Inter-religious Council is grateful to the US Embassy and their support for projects related to the religious community. He also announced that there will be a continuation of support.

Besides ef. Smajić, the US Ambassador also spoke with the Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje, the delegate of the Archbishop of Vrhbosna – Vinko Puljić, Mario Bernadić, and the president of the Jewish Community in B&H, Jakob Finci.
