Ana Jelacic from Trebinje is living, studying and working in Florida, the USA.
Because of her great love for languages, Ana joined the United World College (UWC) in Mostar, which is an international school whose main goal is to restore peace and connect people from all around the world by creating global students without prejudice. Separated life in Mostar taught her to be independent and she decided to study in the US.
Ana chose a university in Florida because it has one of the best engineering programs. She also received a full scholarship. And that is how her American journey started.
She is studying computer engineering, and engineering innovation and economics, in Florida.
She noted that studies in the United States slightly differ from those in BiH because there is plenty of practical work in laboratories.
“I spent my summer working for one of the most prestigious American banks Citi in Jacksonville, Florida. I spent my whole summer living and working in the ‘Digital Technology and Financial Intelligence’ team at Citi, where I got insight into a life after college and I have learned a lot while working for Citi during these three months, and of course, I extended my knowledge regarding banking and technology in the economic sector,” stated young Ana.
Besides the internship this summer, she had a chance to attend various conferences during the past two years, and one of them was held at Harvard University in Boston and the other one took place in Philadelphia. These two conferences were one of the largest events for women in the sector of engineering and technology, and thus she had the opportunity to meet some of the prestigious names from Microsoft and Google, as well as other people who held lectures on the topic of technology advances and the increase in the number of women engaged in the field of engineering, since it is a global problem.
Besides her studies, she is also dealing with numerous extracurricular activities. She has a lot of friends as well. Although she misses Herzegovina, she is not planning to come back after completing her studies, but to find a job in the United States because, according to her, there is more opportunity for young people in that country.
She advised all young people to study abroad because it is a great experience for them.
