Analysis: Internal Migrations in Bosnia and Herzegovina

This release based on data from the Agency for Statistics presents data on internal migration in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2018. It includes whole population, by sex and age structure, that preregistered their place of residence including migration between both entities and Brcko District.

At the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina, population number of immigration/emigration is 29.379. Thereof, a number of immigrants to the Federation of BiH is 20.014. It indicates an increase of 4,8 % in comparison to the same period last year;

Republika Srpska is 8.699. It indicates a decrease of 0,5 %, in comparison to the same period last year, Brcko District is 666. It indicates a decrease of 2,5 % in comparison to the same period last year.

For the same period, a number of emigrants from; Federation of BiH 20.376. It indicates an increase of 5,1 % in comparison to the same period last year;

Republika Srpska is 8.499. It indicates a decrease of 1,8 % in comparison to the same period last year;

Brcko District is 504. It indicates an increase of 2,6 % in comparison to the same period last year.

The total net migration in Republika Srpska is 200, in Federation of BiH -362 , and in Brcko District is 162.

Majority migrants in Bosnia and Herzegovina were persons between 20-39 years of age (14.477 people) which represent 49,3 % of total migration.

In regard to gender structure, the share of female population in total migration is 17.611 or 59,9% and male 11.768 or 40,1%.
