In the village of Brisevo near Prijedor, the anniversary of the crime against Croats was marked by lighting candles and serving Mass.
Between July 24 and 25, 1992, 67 locals were killed in this village, which is considered to be the greatest suffering of Croats in one day in the past war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ivo Atlija is one of the witnesses to the crime in the village of Brisevo near Prijedor. Even today, he remembers the scene of the murders committed by the Army of the Republika Srpska in 1992. Then, he says, entire families were killed in one day. The youngest victim was a 14-year-old boy.
“in two days and nights, they ran over Brisevo, shooting and killing 68 civilians, including 14 women and 8 children. My father was killed on the doorstep, a lot of relatives and friends. Survivors come from abroad only on this day. Still dissatisfied with the inadequate punishment for this crime,” Ivo Atlija said.
“As for our village, this is the 26th anniversary, none of those responsible, unfortunately, when we stated by name and surname that he committed crimes, no one was convicted, and the list here is terrible and everything that happened,” Dragan Dizdarevic said.
Zdravko Marijan, President of the Association “Brisevo” As for the perpetrators themselves, I did not, it was a verdict against Mladic, but they are the supreme politicians, but what about the brigade commanders and the army, no one has been punished and we are dissatisfied.
The Mass for the killed locals was served by the Bishop of Banja Luka, Franjo Komarica, while the members of the Association “Steps of Peace” from Odžak also paid tribute to the victims.
