Anniversary of the Suffering of Serbs in Srebrenica

Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the massacre of 69 Serbian civilians and soldiers in Srebrenica and Bratunac, who were killed by members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on St. Peter’s Day in 1992, according to witness statements, in the villages of Sase and Zalazje in Srebrenica and Biljača and Zagoni in Bratunac.

A Holy Liturgy will be served in the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in Srebrenica, and at the military cemetery in Bratunac, and at the cemeteries in Biljača, Zagoni, Sase and Zalazje, the families of the deceased, representatives of local authorities and associations will lay flowers and light candles.

In addition to the 69 killed villagers in the villages of Srebrenica and Bratunac, 22 people are missing, and the remains of ten missing people were found in a mass grave in the village of Zalazje in 2011. They were identified and buried a year later. Two missing persons were found in other locations, and ten more are being sought.

In November 2018, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina finally acquitted Naser Orić, former commander of the Army of the Republic of BiH, and Sabahudin Muhić of charges that they killed three Serb prisoners in the towns of Zalazje, Lolići, and Kunjerac in 1992.
