The Government of the Zenica-Doboj Canton established the Proposal of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Social Protection, Protection of Civilian Victims of War and Protection of Families with Children, which is referred to the further parliamentary procedure.

The most important reason for the adoption of this law is to ensure the availability and uniformity of the rights of women-mothers working and women-mothers who are not working, i.e. enabling all women in labor to exercise the relevant rights in the area of Zenica-Doboj Canton.

“In the proposal, it is stipulated that the remuneration for employed mothers is now set at the amount of 1,000.00 BAM per month for the duration of maternity leave, which is significantly more favorable than the previous legal solution. The proposal also provides that financial assistance to a woman-mother who is not in an employment relationship, and she earns in the amount of 1,000.00 BAM per month for a maximum of 12 months from the day of the child’s birth,” emphasized the Minister of Labour, Social Policy and Refugees Azra Sinanovic.

Maternity benefit in Sarajevo and Tuzla is 12,000 BAM per year, and in some places, there is no child allowance at all.

“The child allowance will be realized by applying the federal law and will be paid from the Budget of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, starting in October 2022,” Minister Sinanovic said.

The Law on Amendments to the Law on Social Protection, Protection of Civilian Victims of War and Protection of Families with Children is expected to enter into force on the eighth day from the day of its publication in the “Official Gazette of the Zenica-Doboj Canton”, and will begin to apply from September 1, this year.
