The delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Slaven Galić, the Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Major General Ivica Jerkić, the Commander of the Support Command of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Major General Marko Stojčić, and the Commander of the 1st Infantry (Guards) Regiment of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina Brigadier Martin Pažin, on Wednesday, on the occasion of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, at the Sveti Josip cemetery in Sarajevo, they laid wreaths and lit candles for the dead and missing veterans of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO) and civilian victims of the Homeland War.
The laying of wreaths was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Ivan Sabolić, military envoy of the Republic of Croatia in BiH, Brigadier Davor Kiralj, as well as other representatives of the MoD and the Armed Forces of BiH, representatives of associations resulting from the Homeland War, and employees of various levels of government in BiH, including the head of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, Hasan Tanović, as well as representatives of the Croatian National Assembly.
The Chief Chaplain of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Don Željko Čuturić, prayed for the souls of the deceased veterans. After laying wreaths and praying for the dead, the delegations also attended the Mass for the debtors in the seminary Church of St. Cyril and Methodius.
In the period from October 25 to November 2, 2023, members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina will mark the holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day and at other memorials in cities and barracks throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. The central ceremony will be held on October 31, 2023 in Mostar, at the “Masline” cemetery and next to the monument to the veterans in front of the Croatian Home of Herceg Stjepan Kosača and in the Cathedral of Mary the Mother of the Church.
