In the area of Donja Sopotnica in the municipality of Novo Goražde, an exhumation was carried out under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the incomplete remains of at least six people were exhumed.

After the discovery, the skeletal remains were transferred to the ossuary of the PUK “Sveti Marko” in East Sarajevo, where forensic medical processing will be carried out, i.e., determining the cause of death and taking bone samples in order to determine the identity of the victims through DNA analysis.

The process of exhumation in the field was managed by an expert associate of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and representatives of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, the International Commission for Missing Persons (ICMP) in BiH, a permanent forensic expert-pathologist, necessary workers with the use of adequate machinery, as well as the police officers of PS Novo Goražde who secured the location and provided crime-technical support.
