Austria remains a strong Advocate of BiH’s European Path

On the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Austria – October 26, the Ambassador of that country to Bosnia and Herzegovina Georg Diwald said that Austria is a close friend and one of the strongest advocates of the rapid rapprochement of BiH with the European Union.

The Republic of Austria celebrates its National Day on October 26, and on this occasion the Austrian Ambassador to BiH is organizing the already traditional reception at the House of the Armed Forces of BiH in Sarajevo.

“This is a good opportunity to highlight the close friendship and extraordinary bilateral relations between Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Austria is one of the largest investors here, and Austrian companies employ more than 8,000 people. There is close cooperation in the areas of the army, police, judiciary, education and culture. And the most important link between our countries is the large diaspora from BiH living in Austria,” emphasizes Diwald.

It is especially important for countries the size of Austria that the force of law prevails at the international level, and not the right of the stronger.

The basic reference framework of Austrian foreign policy therefore remains cooperation and solidarity at the European and international levels.

At a time when the world seems to be becoming increasingly unstable, Austria wants to take responsibility again and actively participate in shaping our security. That is why we are running for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the period 2027/2028.

“We all know what reforms are necessary so that BiH can finally start negotiations on EU accession. And we know how much the citizens of BiH want to become part of the European Union. That is why we will continue to call on those responsible in the country to take the necessary reform steps,” says the ambassador.

“We look to the future with optimism. Stability in the Western Balkans remains one of the key priorities of Austrian foreign policy. A future in the EU is the best guarantee of that stability,” concluded Ambassador Diwald, according to a statement from the Austrian Embassy in Sarajevo.
