Trebinje-postcard-large-1The external works on the old Austro-Hungarian loft in Trebinje, a unique facility of its kind that has been preserved in BiH, has completed.

The reconstruction was part of a wider project that, in addition to the loft as a part of the complex of the Herzegovina museum, covers a toward of St. Michael, and everything will be done to promote tourism and the project “Staza Vina I Okusa”.

Veseljka Salatić, the Director of the Herzegovina museum, said that the project is being carried out by the Italian organization “Oxfam”, which launched the “Staza Vina I Okusa” project in order to connect Herzegovina and the Dubrovnik-Neretva region, and the loft and tower were designed as a stop along the trail, where tourists would stop, buy souvenirs and try Herzegovinian dishes and be able to see the city from the tower.

Most of the funds, according to an earlier signed agreement, are financed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Italy, which planned 120.000 KM for this project, while Trebinje invested 30.000 KM.

It is anticipated that both facilities will sell all products that are native to this region, from wine to brandy, cheese and Herzegovinian honey and home-made souvenirs.

Not much is known about the tower, other than that it is 18 meters high and that, despite the impressive building of the museum, it dominates the surrounding old city and that, thanks to its monumentality, within the courtyard of the museum and along with a loft it is ideal for the presentation of old dishes and beverages.

These facilities will soon be even more impressive, because there are works on the reconstruction of the façade of the museum building, which have been replaced, and the overall funding for the project is financed by the RS Ministry of Culture and Education for 150.000 KM and UNESCO with around 90.000 KM.
