Bakery “Kraljevac” from Visoko has a century-old tradition. The same bread oven in which the first bread was made in 1912, still works today, and the recipe, whose details remained secret, has not been changed.

In Visoko, everyone knows where is the bakery “Kraljevac”. And here’s why:

We mix flour, salt and yeast. The dough is formed and baked in a bread oven. After three hours, you buy the bread made according to the same recipe as 106 years ago when the first pastry was made here.

We found out that all ingredients are homemade. But, the details about the production remained a secret.

“The craft was transmitted from the first people who started work in this bakery, and we work according to that principle. It is a simple way, there are some things and procedures should not be changed, and that’s it. We do it in the old-fashioned way, and our bread can be used for three, four days without any problems, which our regular customers know, “ said Dibran Karavidaj, the baker.

But they may not know that the bread oven hides the century-old tradition. It was built in 1912 and it has fed citizens of Visoko through four political systems, from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy to the post Dayton democracy.

“My grandfather, Mustafa Sahinovic, created this bakery as part of a family profession, among others in the family, from shoemakers, carpenters and farmers. This bakery was built in 1912 and it has been working continuously until today. This bakery has certain tradition which is seen through a constant presence of the customers, who appreciate the traditional way of producing bread and pastries, “ says Nijaz Sahinovic, owner of the bakery.

There is no doubt that the tradition will be continued. Son Mahir replaced his journalist calling with taking care of the bakery. And it is not so easy, he says. The heir states that local services have requested that the bread oven should be replaced by an electric one during the reconstruction.
