The Independent Union of Basic Education and Upbringing of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina – The Cantonal Board of the Independent Union of Basic Education and Upbringing of the Sarajevo Canton (SSOOiO FBiH – KO KS) sent the line ministry an initiative to ban the use of mobile devices during regular classes.

In the initiative sent to the Ministry of Education of the Canton of Sarajevo, it is stated that the Independent Union of Basic Education and Education of the FBiH – Cantonal Committee of the SSOOIO of the Canton of Sarajevo in the previous period investigated the importance of using mobile phones in classes, i.e. whether they are absolutely necessary during classes / hour.

In the course of the research, they noticed, as they state, that some foreign countries passed a regulation prohibiting the use of telephones in schools several years ago, because they disrupt classes, reduce children’s concentration or lead to illegal recording, which can later be used for the purpose of proving either what kind of actions.

“We have witnessed that in recent years, the phone is used more and more for the purpose of entertainment, publication of illegal content or illegal recording, and less and less for the purpose of science, learning, following positive events, etc. We also witness that our children have become slaves of modern technology and that they rarely or never socialize with their peers, instead they shut themselves up in their own spaces and their only form of communication is the phone and social networks,” states the initiative sent to the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton.

They believe that the entire society should “ask ourselves where the real and true values of camaraderie among peers have disappeared or are disappearing”.

“According to the above, we invite you to try to give children back their childhood, to awaken their will to socialize and play, and to put their cell phones aside and in this way show them that they are not slaves to technology. We must not allow our children to be slaves to cell phones. Bearing in mind the above, and appreciating all the negative aspects of the use of phones in class/class, we hereby submit the Initiative to ban the use of mobile devices during regular classes,” the letter states.

They suggest that exceptions to the ban can only be situations when the use of mobile phones is necessary for health, educational and other justified reasons.
