Becirovic: NATO remains in BiH, Dodik doesn’t have to stay

Dr. Denis Becirovic, the candidate of the united opposition for the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and a delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, reacted to Milorad Dodik’s statement in which he claims that “NATO has no role in BiH.”

“The path to full membership in NATO is an integral part of BiH’s legislation. In the Law on the Defense of BiH, which was also voted by parliamentarians from the SNSD, it is precisely stated that the state institutions of BiH will carry out the necessary activities for the admission of BiH into NATO membership,” said dr. Becirovic.

He pointed out that Milorad Dodik, by belittling the role and importance of NATO, is deliberately misinforming the public with the aim of gaining cheap political points in the election year.

“It must be clear to all citizens of BiH, including those who support Milorad Dodik’s policy, that BiH is a country that has decided to move towards membership in NATO, but also that the admission of our country to NATO is not detrimental to any individual or ethnic group – quite the opposite,” said Dr. Becirovic.

He added that all citizens of BiH will benefit from membership in NATO, considering that membership means preserving peace and security in the country, strengthening cooperation in the field of defense and education, but also strengthening the economy of BiH itself.

“NATO does not pose a threat to any citizen of BiH. I am of the opinion that NATO can only be opposed by those policies that work directly to the detriment of peace, coexistence and economic development of our country,” pointed out Dr. Becirovic.

In the end, he told to Milorad Dodik: “NATO stays in BiH, and if it’s difficult for you, you don’t have to stay. And convey that to your superiors in Moscow and Belgrade.”
