Becirovic: Opening Negotiations would be a Reward for Citizens

The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, said that on Tuesday in the Presidency of BiH, he spoke with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, about the opening of negotiations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union.

He noted that, in just over a year, this is his third conversation and meeting with the President of the European Commission.

According to him, there are few leaders in the world who have visited Bosnia and Herzegovina three times in almost a year and expressed their support for our country.

“That is why I want to say, there must not and cannot be a deviation from the path of Bosnia and Herzegovina to full membership of the European Union. We will not deal with secondary issues,” Bećirović said, and added that 70 percent of BiH’s foreign trade is with the European Union.

He stated that people in our country must know this, and that it is in the interest of our economy.

“That is why I called on the European Union to open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. I also said that in the last year we have harmonized the foreign policy of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the common foreign and security policy of the European Union,” said Bećirović.

He pointed out that the opening of negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 21 and 22 this year would be a great reward for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“And also, it would be a punishment for anti-European politicians in our country. The European Union should understand that this is not only aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is an investment. Investment in a more stable BiH, in a more stable region, investment in a stronger European Union. It is also an important geopolitical issue and that is why I am satisfied with today’s conversation and the messages we had the opportunity to hear here in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he concluded, according to Bećirović’s Cabinet.
