Denis Bećirović, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said after the meeting with the head of the European Union (EU) Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johan Sattler, that the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina fully fulfilled all its obligations, and he also praised the work of other state institutions on the way to the EU.
There is no doubt that the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina was much more efficient in the last year than in the previous four years, he said.
“The Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina also achieved better results. I believe that Bosnia and Herzegovina harmonized its foreign policy 100 percent with the foreign and security policy of the European Union last year, and that never happened until 2023,” said Bećirović.
He emphasized that the decision for Bosnia and Herzegovina to start negotiations for EU membership would be a huge incentive, encouragement for citizens and a very strong message to the entire Western Balkans region.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path to full membership in the EU has no alternative. Opening negotiations is not joining the EU. It is a chance for Bosnia and Herzegovina, for its citizens, to harmonize our legislation with the acquis of the European Union. This is an important moment for Bosnia and Herzegovina, we must not miss this chance,” said Bećirović.
He recalled that he had spoken with numerous leaders of European countries, noting that he believes that after his visits to Brussels, Berlin, Paris and other important centers, the outcome will be positive.
“The path towards the European Union is not a question of one political party, one individual, one mandate, it is a generational project for all people and the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Bećirović.
The decision on the opening of accession negotiations between BiH and the EU is expected on March 21.
