The company “Mellifer” located near Bosanski Novi produces all types of beekeeping hives. According to Steve Kovacevic, the owner, except for the BiH market, they are also exporting their products to Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and the Netherlands.

Depending on the country in which it is exported, the shape and the dimensions of the hive are different, Kovacevic said, adding that they are exporting from 500 to 1,000 beehives monthly.

Currently, 13 workers are employed in this family business, but more workers are needed because he plans to expand the production. However, the professional workforce is difficult to find, Kovacevic adds.

“Simply, there are no qualified carpenters. We often do not set the condition that potential workers need to have the appropriate professional qualifications, but we are further training them, “ Kovacevic said for Avaz newspapers.

In BiH, hives cost from 70 to 80 BAM, while on the foreign market it is not below 50 euros.
