Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has reopened for commercial traffic today after just over two months. Wizz Air has become the first airline to resume commercial flights to the Serbian capital, with the budget carrier operating a service from London Luton today. Air Serbia will begin rebuilding its network from Thursday, Ex-Yu Aviation news reports.

“This is a very encouraging and important first step in the recovery of the economy, tourism and trade from the impact of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic”, Belgrade Airport said in a statement, commenting on the resumption of operations. Several repatriation flights are also set to take place in the coming two weeks, with Etihad Airways to deploy its Boeing 787-9 aircraft from Abu Dhabi to the Serbian capital on Thursday, while Flydubai will operate a service from its base on May 26.

The final flight schedules will depend on demand, as well as the decisions and guidelines of local, foreign and international bodies and authorities in charge of civil aviation, as well as changes to travel restrictions and public health measures in countries from which airlines maintain flights to Belgrade. In order to safeguard passengers, employees and partners, Belgrade Airport has put in place new hygiene measures. These measures include managing flows of people, observing social distancing, providing personal protection equipment, as well as cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. Entry to Belgrade Airport’s terminals is permitted only to arriving or departing passengers, while everyone is required to wear a mask or face covering.
