Bells of the Congregational Church echoed after 24 Years

mostar churchBells on the Congregational Church of the Holy Trinity in Mostar, which is under construction, rang today for the first time after 24 years, on the occasion of the celebration of the patron saint of the Descend of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles – the Trinity Day.

The liturgy was held by the pre-war priest of the Congregational Church, the archpriest Aleksa Zubac, with the assistance of numerous clergy of the Eparchy of Zahumlje, Herzegovina and the Littoral.

Zubac recalled that the last service under the roof of the Congregational Church was held in April 1992 for Easter, and expressed hope that next year the liturgy will be held under a copper roof, instead of the sky roof.

The parson of Mostar Radivoje Krulj expects that the church might get a roof by the end of the year.

“Works on the central dome began, and this year the bell tower should be finished and the church should be roofed, if the promises we got from the Government of Serbia and the FBiH Government are respected,” Krulj said.

Krulj added that these works would mean the completion of construction works, but that still a lot has to be done in terms of decorating the church and arranging the parterre. Works are currently being conducted in slow dynamics due to limited financial means.

The Mayor of Mostar Ljubo Bešlić congratulated the patron saint of the Congregational Church to the believers, expressing hope that the church which used to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the city will soon shine in its new light.
