Better Connectivity and sustainable urban Mobility with the European Mobility Week in BiH

European Mobility Week, the European Union’s leading initiative to raise awareness of sustainable urban mobility, takes place every year from 16 to 22 September with the increasing participation of cities, organisations and initiatives across Europe and the world. This European initiative promotes behavioural changes in favour of active mobility, public transport and other clean, intelligent transport solutions.

This year’s theme of the European Mobility Week is “Better connections” with the slogan “Mix and move!” which reflects the desire of individuals across Europe to reconnect with each other after a long period of isolation, restrictions and obstacles. Better Connectivity encourages participating cities to foster synergy between citizens and places that offer their expertise, creativity and commitment to raising awareness of sustainable mobility and promoting behavioural change for sustainable urban mobility solutions.

Together with numerous local partners and organisations and the local administrations of Banja Luka, Mostar and Sarajevo, the Info Center of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina organises a series of educational and recreational activities for all generations in order to highlight the importance and numerous advantages of sustainable urban mobility.

After a two-year hiatus, Giro di Sarajevo, a popular and well-loved cycling event, returns to the streets of Sarajevo on September 18, attracting thousands of cycling fans and inviting everyone to a unique ride and fun for all generations.

The popular and traditional leisure ride “Two Wheels are Enough” marks this year’s Car Free Day in Banja Luka on September 22. One of the goals of riding on the streets is to make cities suitable for cycling and to highlight the need to provide cyclists with urban cycle paths and the right to equal and active participation in traffic. On the same day, September 22, as part of the first celebration of European Mobility Week in Mostar, the Second Mostar Bike Ride will be held, including a bike ride through the city streets and a race for the youngest.

All citizens are invited to join us in Banja Luka, Mostar and Sarajevo or by organising activities in their local communities. Together, we help raise citizens’ awareness of the harm to the environment and the quality of life of the existing way of moving in cities. Given the challenges that city life presents, it is time to rethink how we move. Together, in small steps, we can all move towards a zero-emissions future if it becomes our shared concern and responsibility.

There are healthier and smarter ways we can move around cities while reducing pollution – let’s move actively, walk and cycle safely and use public transport!
