Bevanda: BiH still has a Chance for the Second Tranche of the IMF

bevandaBiH still has a chance for the second tranche of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), but “it is a question how much we are aware of it”, said the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH and Minister of Finance and Treasury, Vjekoslav Bevanda.

According to him, it is clear from the beginning that “we have to fulfill the conditions from the Letter of Intent, which should not represent a big problem to us because we have already agreed to it in the Reform Agenda.” However, it turned out in the meantime that everyone decided to fulfill their own political goals instead of serious reforms and that’s why we came in this situation.

“From the very beginning, we entered this arrangement with the IMF with our internal issues, from signing the Letter of Intent. However, I expect that we will take steps, not because of the IMF conditions but ourselves, that will allow us to build our infrastructure, employ our companies and workers, and not to deal with politics and stories of those endangered ones, and then fail to really allow them a better life. I hope that other political actors will also realize that it is better to stick to what we have already agreed to, instead of being adventurous,” said Bevanda.

Asked whether he is satisfied with the work of the Council of Ministers of BiH, which recently held its 100th session, and whether that work is burdened by weak coalition relations, he said that they can do a lot better, but we have to consider the atmosphere in which they work as well as the overall political situation in country.

“When we take all of this into account, the Council of Ministers of BiH has done a lot, but I will keep to what is done by the ministry that I lead. We prepared the budgets on time and adopted them on time, without a lot of political fuss. We finished the work regarding clearing debt of the former USSR and we are the only country to which this debt will be refunded very soon. We implemented the medium-term strategy of management of public debt for the first time since there is a Council of Ministers of BiH. All of this was done in cooperation with the entity ministries and it is a success,” stated Vjekoslav Bevanda.
