The expedition in the organization of the Extreme Summit Team, led by guide Kenan Muftic, spent 6 days on Mount Kilimanjaro trying to reach its highest peak. In the expedition participated four mountaineers from BiH and mountaineers from Serbia and Macedonia.
After successfully conquered the highest peak in Africa, popular Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro, international expedition landed in Belgrade last night.
Kilimanjaro is an attractive destination for mountaineers, nature lovers, and people who love travels and adventure.
It is the largest freestanding mountain in the world with the peak of 5895 meters above the sea level.
Ascent of our expedition lasted for about four and a half days, a descent for almost two days.
“The ascent begins from the gate of the national park at an altitude of about 1800 meters, and the trail leads through a tropical forest at the beginning, where monkeys wish you a good luck from the surrounding trees,” said Rade Simic, a member of the expedition.
After the forest follows area with minimal or no vegetation on above 2800 meters up to the final ridge, which begins near the last mountain house Kibo, which is placed on 4700 meters.
“After coming to Kibo and acclimatization comes the hardest part, the night climb to the top. If we consider the temperature of -18 °C and extremely steep climb to Gilmans Point, or the point of the climb on a ridge, it is clear why this mountain has the respect of all mountaineers. After leaving the Gilmans Point and spectacular sunrise, follows the final climb along the ridge, and while you enjoy the last glaciers of Kilimanjaro you finally come to the Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Africa,” said Simic.
All members of the expedition climbed the peak safely and successfully.
After the expedition, members of the group spent some time in Tanzania, went on safari and had a rest before returning home.
A member of the expedition, Rade Simic, used the opportunity to promote his first book, a travelogue about travel in South America after the World Cup in 2014.
