valjevo attackActivists of the nongovernmental organization (NGO) Women in Black and bicyclists who started from Belgrade towards Srebrenica were attacked in Valjevo. Namely, they gathered on the main square in order to commemorate the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. A large group of people, with curses and insults, broke through the police cordon and attacked the participants, among them Staša Zajović, Ljiljana Radovanović, Miloš Urošević and Dejan Gašić.

According to words of Staša Zajović from Women in Black, a group of people firstly started to verbally provoke, insult and shoot the activists with different items.

“Then their numbers began to increase, especially the number of men who were extremely aggressive and violent and all was accompanied with serious threats. At one point, they broke through the cordon of police and started to attack on us. I I fell on the elbow and hit my head, Ljiljana was attacked, Miloš’s clothes was torn apart and was bleeding, as well as another bicyclist Dejan Gašić. Then the terrible insult started and the police barely managed to protect us ” said Staša Zajović.

She states that had gathered group of people held distinct emblems such as “Chetniks Valjevo,” and several of them wore T-shirts with the image of Ratko Mladić. Eventually, in the end, police managed to evacuate non-governmental activists in the hotel where bicyclists are planning to spend the Wednesday night and then to continue the road to Srebrenica.

“We from the organization Women in Black will be evacuated to Belgrade, and then we will continue our activities related to the anniversary of the genocide, because it is essential to reach our goal. The peace group of bicyclists continue their path as well, “added Staša Zajović.

She adds that the police took statements from them and that they will file a criminal complaint, but they hope that it will not be in vain as in all previous years.
