Bosnian triathlete and alpinist Tomislav Cvitanusic arrived in Sarajevo yesterday evening after successfully completing his mission and climbing the world’s largest mountain, Mount Everest, 8,848 meters high.

At the Airport in Sarajevo, he was welcomed by friends, relatives, and numerous media.

A well-known alpinist from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)especially thanked the media and the public because they followed him during the entire mission to the very top of Mount Everest. He added that throughout the ascent he had the contact and support of his teacher and legendary alpinist Muhamed Gafic.

“That was important because Everest can’t be climbed from the gym, it doesn’t require strength, but it has to be from the heart, and I was filled with so much support and that helped me a lot,” said Cvitanusic, adding that the risk was huge.

“This year, including today, there were twelve dead and five missing, which is too many for Everest. It was a strange year in terms of wind. The wind speed reached 120 kilometers per hour, and the temperature was minus 30, 32 to minus 38”, said Cvitanusic yesterday and added:

“The feeling when you are at the top is the complete opposite of what one would expect, to feel powerful and strong. You feel so small and realize everything is fleeting. I am still overwhelmed with emotions. After 58 days, I returned to BiH,” a BiH alpinistexplained.

The public throughout the region followed his expedition to Mount Everest with great attention, which began on March 31stwhen he left Sarajevo airport for Nepal.
