At the Butmir base in Sarajevo today, 10 years have been marked since the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Eufor and law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ministers, deputy ministers, directors and police commissioners attended this event, which was hosted by Eufor commander Helmut Habermeyer, as well as representatives of all 19 law enforcement agencies in BiH, Eufor announced.

It was said at the gathering that this is the only memorandum of understanding signed by all law enforcement agencies in BiH and that in the 10 years since it was signed, the exchange of information between Eufor and the agencies has become much simpler and more efficient.

The Special Adviser to the Commander of Eufor for Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives presented Eufor’s Weapons Registration Program, including the stages of the BiH Ammunition, Weapons and Explosives Plan, marking, registration and deactivation of small arms and light weapons and the concept of training conducted within the plan.

He emphasized that this program is open to all law enforcement agencies in BiH and that the pilot project in cooperation with the Norwegian People’s Aid has started in Brčko district.

Eufor’s special advisor for law enforcement agencies informed the attendees about his role as a special advisor, which includes establishing a relationship with representatives of international institutions responsible for the rule of law, police work and security throughout BiH.

In addition, the special advisor proactively works to establish and maintain responsible relations with representatives of law enforcement agencies at the level of BiH, entities and cantons, as well as in the region, the announcement states.
