BiH and Montenegro open Joint Border Crossing

At the joint border crossing Zupci – Sitnica, the border police and customs services of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro began working together at one location today.

Carrying out all border procedures and controls at one location should speed up the flow of passengers and goods, the Indirect Taxation Administration of BiH announced.

The beginning of joint work was marked by the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon by the Deputy Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ivica Bošnjak and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Montenegro Danilo Šaranović.

The reconstruction of the Zupci border crossing began in March 2024 due to the need for arrangement and expansion so that, in addition to the competent services from BiH, the competent services from neighboring Montenegro would be under the same roof.

The total value of the work performed is 1.84 million BAM.

The work of all services under the same roof should speed up the flow of passengers and goods, said Zoran Tegeltija, Director of the Indirect Taxation Administration of BiH.

“The opening of the joint border crossing Sitnica – Zupci, between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, has multiple significance at the local, regional and international levels, as well as faster and more efficient controls, less waiting for passengers, especially during the tourist season; the opening of the crossing allows easier access for tourists from Montenegro to the interior of Bosnia and Herzegovina and vice versa, for tourists from BiH to the Montenegrin coast,” he stated.

The joint border crossing Zupci – Sitnica is one of four joint border crossings at which the border police and customs services of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro will operate in the future.

In 2020, the first joint border crossing was already opened, on the territory of Montenegro, and it is the Deleuša-Vraćenovići crossing. The construction of the joint border crossing Hum – Šćepan Polje is underway on the territory of Montenegro, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is obliged to carry out the reconstruction of the border crossing Klobuk – Ilino Brdo, after the completion of which all four border crossings will have a common location for the competent services of the two countries.
