More than one thousand citizens gathered last night in front of the BiH institution building in Sarajevo in order to pay tribute to the one and a half month old baby girl Berina Hamidović.
Among them was Emir, the father of Berina whose daughter was born on 17 March of this year and died on 13 June in Belgrade from sepsis.
Berina was diagnosed with a tracheoesophageal fistula at the site of anastomosis, due to which she was unable to eat. After her unsuccessful operation in Sarajevo, she was sent to Belgrade. Since she did not have her unique master citizen number, there were problems encountered when trying to leave the country. They waited for hours at the border in an ambulance, where the baby was connected to machines because police would not initially allow them to enter Serbia without documentation.
However, when they managed to solve the problems at the border, and the child was transferred to the hospital in Belgrade, Canton Sarajevo did not pay the 100,000 dinars for the surgery. After that, Berina became afflicted with sepsis and died on 13 June.
Citizens blame the government for her death, the representatives who did not react on time to adopt a law on the unique master citizen number, which would have enabled Berina to arrive to Belgrade faster for treatment.
Citizens in other BiH citizens paid tribute to Berina.
Citizens of Mostar lit candles in front of the building of the FBiH institution and held a minute of silence for Berina.
A letter was read that stated that BiH representatives are guilty for her death.
The funeral for baby Berina Hamidović will take place today at the cemetery Vlakovo at 14:00.
