Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today with the Resident Coordinator of the UN in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ingrid Macdonald, with whom he discussed the partnership activities of the United Nations with BiH, with a focus on the implementation of the Agenda for Sustainable Development by 2030.

In this regard, UN Resident Coordinator Ingrid Macdonald recalled the letter of the UN Secretary General sent last month to heads of states and governments in which he called for stronger commitment, solidarity and transformative action to achieve the main goals of the 2030 Agenda to end poverty, reduce inequality and environmental protection.

She pointed out that, in this regard, the Summit on Sustainable Development Goals is also planned for September 18 and 19, 2023, during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly. The summit represents an important platform for member states to present their obligations to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Macdonald also informed Konaković about the activities of the UN Secretary General’s Peace Building Fund, for which Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified last year, and through which BiH has the opportunity to use funds for education, health, culture and the environment.

This, as she stated, provides Bosnia and Herzegovina with additional investments in peacebuilding, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), which includes the possibility of membership in the Peacebuilding Commission.

Minister Konaković pointed out that BiH supports the continuation of UN engagement and activities in preserving international peace and security, improving and protecting human rights, achieving sustainable development, including the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

He reminded that Bosnia and Herzegovina actively contributes to UN peacekeeping missions, one of the most visible components of the UN, by actively participating in four UN peacekeeping missions: in South Sudan, Cyprus, Congo and Mali, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
