The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today with the Acting High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Louis J. Crishock.

The focus of the conversation was the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with special reference to the role of the Office of the High Representative in preserving institutional stability, protecting the constitutional order and implementing the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Minister Konaković expressed his full support for Acting High Representative Louis J. Crishock in performing his duties until the appointment of a new High Representative, stressing that ensuring institutional continuity is extremely important for legal security and preserving the credibility of international supervision over the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

He pointed out that it is important to ensure the full continuity of the function of the high representative in order to preserve the legal certainty of all decisions made by previous high representatives and to prevent any attempt to challenge, circumvent or endanger them. In this context, it was emphasized that the Acting High Representative, within his mandate, will take all necessary measures to protect legal continuity and institutional stability.

Minister Konaković pointed out that he has full confidence in the work of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) and the procedure for electing a new high representative, expressing his belief that this process will result in the election of a credible person who will continue the consistent implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

He emphasized that the key value of the Bonn powers is not in their frequent application, but in their existence as the ultimate guarantee of the protection of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the constitutional order, state institutions and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, until the conditions from the 5+2 program are fulfilled.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of preserving strong and credible international engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina and confirmed full support for the mandate and powers of the Office of the High Representative, emphasizing the importance of close coordination of international partners in protecting the Dayton Peace Agreement, preserving stability and continuing reform processes on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path.
