On November 23, due to the presence of the pesticide chlorpyrifos, the federal sanitary inspection at the border crossing and customs clearance point Bijača prohibited the import of a shipment of two tons of mandarins from Croatia.

The use of the mentioned pesticide is prohibited in agricultural production in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the countries of the European Union.

“Namely, in the process of inspection supervision over the import of foodstuffs and food whose customs clearance is carried out at GP/MC Bijača, samples were taken whose laboratory analysis determined an illegal amount of the pesticide chlorpyrifos, which is in contradiction with the Rulebook on maximum levels of pesticide residues in and on food and feed for animals of plant and animal origin and Article 8 of the Law on the Healthiness of Foodstuffs and Items of General Use”, it was stated from FUZIP.

Accordingly, and in accordance with the Law on the Healthiness of Foodstuffs and Items of General Use, the import of a controlled shipment with a total weight of two tons is prohibited, and its destruction has been ordered in the prescribed manner.

“The border inspection sector of the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs continues increased supervision over the import of mandarins into BiH through border crossings in the territory of FBiH, in accordance with the recommendation of the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina from November 9, 2023,” the statement concludes.
