The Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs has banned the import of mandarins from Croatia into Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) due to the presence of the pesticide chlorpyrifos, the use of which is prohibited in agricultural production in the country and the European Union (EU), the Food Safety Agency of BiH announced.

According to the current regulations, the importer was ordered to return the disputed shipment to the sender in the country of the exporter, that is, to destroy the shipment if it is not possible to return it so that the mentioned shipment does not pose a risk to the health of consumers in BiH, the announcement states.

Based on the recommendations of the Agency, the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs, in addition to regular official controls, also implements enhanced control measures during the import of mandarins for the possible presence of chlorpyrifos.

“The Food Safety Agency monitors potential risks originating from food in our country and the surrounding area, and in cooperation with competent inspection bodies undertakes appropriate measures with the aim of protecting the health and interests of consumers in BiH,” it was said in the statement.
