During the last year, 72.7% of all organizations in the world were the target of ransomware attacks, i.e. malicious applications or programs. Attacks are becoming more frequent every year. For example, the percentage of affected organizations increased in five years from 55% (2018) to 72.7 (2023).
This bad global trend does not bypass BiH and the region, where an increase in the number of cyber attacks in domestic companies and organizations is recorded.
“We used to think that it was happening somewhere far away, that an attack on the information system could not happen to us. However, every visit to the Internet carries a certain amount of risk. In order to avoid such situations, it is necessary to educate all interested parties and offer them good examples from practice, so-called ‘case studies’ cases – IT expert Denis Mihić said in an interview for Fena news agency.
The first such “case study” conference will be held on May 23 and 34 in Mostar under the name Vision Days IT, which will bring together over 200 participants from all over BiH as well as big name lecturers from the entire region. During the two-day conference, 20 lectures will be held.
“We are sure that all participants will come out of the conference with completely different views on IT security,” believes Mihić.
This conference, as stated by Mihić, will be different because it is aimed at the common man, the employee, who in his work faces many challenges in terms of cyber security, but also at the management of the company, so that they understand the importance of investing in them.
“The lectures will be based exclusively on case studies, that is, case studies, practical examples that our lecturers have encountered during their many years of experience and the ways in which they solved them,” said Mihić.
The inspiration for the organization of the conference is, as he states, his desire for Mostar to have an event like this, which, as he hopes, will grow into a recognizable brand in the future, and which the City recognized as one of its sponsors.
Today, cyber threats are one of the main reasons for business interruption, and each of us can be the weakest or strongest link in the company’s defense against cyber attacks. Mihić states that 100 percent protection against cyber attacks does not exist.
“Education is one of the key things to raise the news about cybercrime and everything that happens today in the ‘virtual’ world. Investing in infrastructure is necessary because technology is advancing very quickly, and thus cyber attacks are becoming more sophisticated,” Mihić pointed out.
Emphasizing the importance of holding the conference in Mostar, he reiterated that education is very important and that this kind of conference has never been held in Herzegovina, where we have a large number of companies that are serious producers and exporters in Europe.
