Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zukan Helez, today received NATO’s Assistant Secretary-General for Intelligence and Security, David Cattler, who is visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The interlocutors discussed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards full membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the challenges faced by the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They also discussed the complex political relations in the country and the region.
Minister Helez emphasized the importance of domestic politicians’ responsibility towards the safety of all citizens and emphasized that BiH’s path to full membership in NATO and the European Union has no alternative.
He thanked his guest for the assistance that NATO provides to the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina through a package of strengthening defense capacities. He also pointed out that he hopes this assistance will be expanded.
NATO Assistant Secretary General Cattler emphasized that the NATO alliance will continue to assist Bosnia and Herzegovina on its way to achieving democratic standards within the framework of the collective security system, for the benefit of all BiH residents, and will continue to support the European Union Forces (EUFOR) in BiH in preserving peace and stability in the country.
